Hi there! Are you wondering why I have a blog?
I love creating things and reflecting on process; not just the creative journey, but also the experience of living and being human. As often as possible, I write about something that has been on my mind. I hope sharing my insights, stories, discoveries, tips, and musings here can help other people on their life journey too.
I think acknowledging how challenging, relatable, funny, weird and messy our lives are will ultimately make our time on earth more joyful and inspired. Writing this blog is one of the vehicles I use to live a more fulfilling, healthy and beautiful life!
Thanks for joining me on this ride and subscribing to my newsletter to receive an email notification when I post my latest blog!
10 Art Show Tips & Hacks!
I have several years of experience with a bunch of art shows and want to share what has worked for me and what has not. If you are reading this and you are not an exhibitor, keep reading! I urge you to read to the end to gain an appreciation of how vital you are to the community and what goes into planning these events. Also, maybe you will realize this is something totally do-able you can also try to turn your hobby into a side hustle or full-time gig!
Your fellowship is quite literally the fuel that keeps us creating and bringing more joy into the world.
I have learned a lot attending art shows and preparing for them as an exhibitor. I am sure I still have a lot to learn too, so send me a message if you have any pro tips for me! Here are my top ten tips:
Rejection and Acceptance 2.0
Storytime! This story has a twist...
Rejections are inevitable. Not letting it affect your productivity or confidence is difficult. The only way to regain confidence is to keep creating and putting ourselves into vulnerable positions that may or may not include rejection.
You Can Do Anything, But You Can’t Do Everything
I wish I could remember where I heard or read the insight: “You can do anything, but you can’t do everything.” I decided this should be my mantra, especially during the holiday season. The words both encourage us to create tremendous goals for ourselves, but also acknowledge we are humans with limitations. I think the quote is asking us to be kind to ourselves instead of self-flagellating when we fail at doing the impossible.
Rejection and Acceptance
Earlier this spring I stepped out of my comfort zone and submitted a mural design to the town of Asbury Park, New Jersey. Spoiler alert…my design was not selected. Read to the end to see how the universe or some higher power (or simulation?!) had my back. In this blog post, I share my very normal human experience of rejection, my thoughts throughout the whole process and the roller coaster of emotions I encountered. I think every reader will be able to relate.
Art Is Our Birthright
Art and being creative is our birthright. One of the reasons I can’t wait to read Your Brain on Art: How The Arts Transform Us is because the authors claim “science can now validate what we have intuitively known to be true about art.” We are born to create, and each of us has artistic traits. CREATING IS IMPERATIVE FOR OUR HEALTH.
Why is creativity both celebrated and dismissed?
Why is creativity simultaneously celebrated and dismissed?
There are so many mixed messages surrounding creativity. The starving artist myth has been perpetuated for generations. Creativity is not synonymous with being artistic. It is essential to survive. Here is why…
Manifesting Through Self Worth Not Vision Boards
Manifesting Through Self Worth Not Vision Boards
I spent so many years in my 20’s “thinking positive” and “visualizing”. My 30’s were a blur of feeding children, cleaning, laundering, and meeting the expectations of others. Anytime I actually achieved anything I dreamed about accomplishing or having it wasn’t through positivity or visualization.
Life Hacks And Lessons I Learned As A Hairdresser
Life Hacks and Lessons I Learned As a Hairdresser
I don’t know if it is just because I am in my forties now or the climate of our post-pandemic meta-verse world, but people (including me) seem to really be struggling navigating through this era! Keep reading, because I think my insights from my hairdressing days are applicable for all people, all ages, in the workplace and in our personal lives.
Be Brave Enough To Suck At Something New!
Are you brave enough to suck at something new?
I came across an illustration recently with lettering that read “be brave enough to suck at something new”…and this message really stuck with me while I was prepping for my most recent event Art In the Garden at Calgo Gardens in Freehold, New Jersey. I laughed about it, then really reflected on how much truth there is in that statement.
What To Create When You Don’t Know What To Create!
When you have to schedule time to make art it can feel like: ready, set, be creative! Then nothing flows. A lot of the time the only part of the day you can carve out to work (play) is when you are physically and mentally depleted. What can one do when you JUST FEEL UNINSPIRED? Ugh. This self imposed pressure plus a creative block can really negate all of the mental health benefits of a daily creative practice.
Here are my suggestions to deal with creative blocks:
