In my recent work including “Paper Crane” (2024), I explore the balance between structure and fragmentation through a grid format. Each square is divided into three stripes, alternating between vertical and horizontal orientations, creating a rhythmic interplay that invites engagement. The gradations of color within the repeated pattern are intended to create vibrational energy.

This piece features a paper crane, symbolizing hope and transformation. By juxtaposing the fragility of the crane with the stability of the grid, I reflect on the tension between order and chaos. The stripes guide the viewer’s eye, encouraging an examination of color and texture.

My intention is to evoke emotion and inspire personal interpretation, allowing viewers to connect with their own experiences. Through abstraction, I aim to cut across literal representation and foster a dialogue about how color, shapes, patterns and images can make one feel. What is calming to one person can feel unsettling to another person.

As I continue to evolve in my practice, I am excited to experiment with varying grid and stripe sizes, as well as color palettes and subjects, further investigating the relationship between abstraction and symbolism. For me, each canvas represents a journey full of complexities and beautiful transformation.
