This amazing community project and public art installation is located in downtown Freehold, New Jersey!

The Half Mile of Horses Art Walk and Contest is part of the Freehold Borough Neighborhood Preservation Program and Historic Preservation Commission.

I was honored to be one of 18 artists selected to paint a horse to honor and celebrate Freehold’s rich equine heritage. It is home to the oldest half-mile horse racing track in the country!

I hope you choose my horse “Be Like a Peacock”, but please know I won’t take it personally if you choose one of the other beautiful horses!

Here is a little bit about what inspired the theme of my horse and the peacock elements:

Be like a peacock and dance with all your beauty! Very much like horses, the peacock is a symbol of power, strength and confidence. Peacock feathers are unique and colorful. During Victorian times, here in New Jersey and other parts of the world, women proudly adorned their hats with gorgeous peacock feathers. Although the hats conformed to the societal standards of the time, the design and the arrangement of feathers were unique to the woman wearing it. This was especially evident at glamorous events like horse races! This horse “Be Like a Peacock” celebrates our self worth, embraces and is meant to inspire individuality.

My horse is located at 10 West Main Street across the street from the CVS Pharmacy.
